For these festive days, I want to present you a classy breakfast spot in the heart of Luxemburg city: Plëss, the brasserie of the elegant Hotel Le Place d’Armes. Breakfast is served for the hotel guests, but can be attended separately, too. As I like giving time as a gift for Christmas, a visit to this restaurant could represent a lovely last minute Christmas gift if you are still looking for a special something.
The restaurant opens out to the Place d’Armes and is perfectly located if you want to combine your breakfast with a shopping tour or a visit of Luxemburg city. The setting is bright and contemporary. For breakfast, you can choose the Parisian breakfast served at the table (17€) including hot beverages like coffee, hot chocolate, a selection of teas or infusions, freshly squeezed orange or grapefruit juices, a selection of pastries and bread, homemade chocolate spread, homemade seasonal fruit jam as well as sweet and semi-salted butter. The kid’s breakfast (-12 years old) is available for 12€. In addition, there is an American breakfast buffet (26€) which is what we opted for.
In the breakfast buffet, everything is included: drinks and food. The lavazza coffee is a bit disappointing, but you can also opt for a hot chocolate, a tea or infusion, truly fresh orange and grapefruit juices, other juices or even a Crémant from Luxembourg! On the fruity side, you can choose between fresh seasonal fruits, homemade fruit salads displayed in beautiful small porcelain bowls. At our visit, there were dried apricots and festive plums with orange and spices, too. There are also various yoghurts and cottage cheese with not too sweet homemade fresh fruit coulis.
Besides a deliciously crusty white Mary baguette, you can find a special buckwheat bread and different sandwich breads. Sweet and semi-salted butter comes in individual portions evoking candies, fruit jams are displayed in small jars and the homemade seasonal fruit jam as well as the tasty homemade chocolate spread with hazelnuts are presented in stylish and functional preserving jars. There are even more sweet options with organic corn flakes and muesli, crisp mini pastries, a homemade cake of the week and a delicious warm pudding served with caramel sauce with Jack Daniel’s (my favorite!!).
Savoury dishes like mature cheese, bacon, saucages, roasted Label Rouge farm chicken filet and Iberico cooked ham can also be found at the buffet, together with a perfect Label Rouge smoked salmon toast with a little horseradish spread as well as a “pan con tomate” with Iberico shoulder prosciutto. Besides scrambled eggs on the buffet, soft-boiled eggs, fried eggs or omelette with toppings are prepared upon request. All in all a classy breakfast experience in a great location with a classic selection of high-quality products.
