After living in Paris and in Vienna, I am now so excited to check out all of the yummy breakfast and brunch places here in Luxemburg! Hope you come with me on my explorations! Last sunday, I met up with a dear friend at a place called “GLOW” – sounds promising, right? We were not disappointed…
This breakfast/lunch/coffee place opened at the end of August in 2016. Their website says “coffee corner meets bakery meets health food”. The focus lies on fresh vegetarian and vegan dishes. I love their concept and the minimalistic interior brightened with decorative details that make you feel cozy and welcome. In case you didn’t notice yet: I love the Scandinavian interior style!
Laure Goedert, the owner, was very welcoming. This sunday brunch’s theme was “Luxemburg” and most of the dishes fitted the motto very well: Kachkéis, Wäffelcher, Bouneschlupp, Gromperekichelcher… For 25€ you could serve yourself at the buffet – a fresh juice and a hot drink were included as well. I had a juice called “Deep red” with beet, apple, lemon and ginger. This one was delicious! My friend had the “Sunny orange” with curcuma, apple and carrots she liked very much, too. The coffee beans come from another local business, Knopes, which is really great! I had a fresh mint tea and my friend choose a creamy Chai Latte.
The crispy bread, wholewheat croissants and some kind of crumble brioches are all provided by Laure’s sister Cathy who has it’s own bakery in town. You can serve yourself granola and oats, fresh fruit, homemade peanut butter and vegan chocolate spread (both to die for!), different marmelades and butter. My sweet tooth really wasn’t disappointed. There were vegan pancakes, banana bread that was a bit too compact for me, homemade applesauce and – my prefered one – a classic applecrumble perfect for this time of the year!
For the savory part, there was a selection of tasty cheese (Luxemburg’s Kachkéis, parmiggiano, comté and brie) as well as surprising salad variations that come right out of the new book by Anne’s Kitchen: winter slaw, potato salad and – my favorites – potato pancakes and beet & avocado salad. I was very much into beet that day 😉 The salads were served with a vegan dressing made of soy yoghurt and black sesame seeds as well as a dollop of hummus. There was even a luxembourgish “Bouneschlupp” and “Bouchée à la Reine”, but unfortunately I was already too full to try these. Next time…
“All that counts is that you get your glow, meal by meal.”
