I have been to Vienna again a few weeks ago and I discovered a new cosy spot to have breakfast: Warenhandlung. I really felt in love with this small shop / café and returned there several times during my short stay in Vienna. This place has everything it needs for me to feel comfortable: lovely staff, best quality products and a scandinavian interior. It is actually run by two sisters and once inside, you will feel their love for culinary delights and esthetics. The coffee is excellent (Melange 3,20€) and the products on the menu and in sale are among my favorites in Austria: cooked ham from Thum Schinken and bread and pastries from the organic bakery Gragger & Cie. We tried the sweet breakfast (5,90€) with a bread roll (Handsemmel), a not so sweet croissant (Hildegard Kipferl), butter and apricot jam. A traditional Austrian breakfast, perfect in its taste! We also had the small breakfast (7,90€) with my favorite Gragger bread roll (Flûte), ham, Austrian cheese and butter. What I missed these flavors… even so the taste of the world’s best butter salt stick (Buttersalzstangerl!) and a delicious quark pastry (Topfengolatsche). They also had my favorite Viennese poppyseed pastry (Mohnbeugerl 3,30€) but we saved this pleasure for next time. You see, I was quite overwhelmed but I think I just missed those Viennese products so much I was in heaven at this breakfast spot. Don’t forget to reserve a table as the café space is really small, but you can buy everything to eat at home as half of the place is a packaging-free shop.
